Our 2021 Sniff-Over continues as a ‘Rona (or Corona) Style event by getting together at Camp Ihduhapi, which is located 20 miles west of the Twin Cities area. Our goal continues to be to have fun together, learn from our dogs & improve our team work AND still keep everyone as safe as possible! Please join us for a sniffin' good time this year on the beautiful shores of Lake Independence. In the last year we have lost NINE wonderful & amazing Sniff-Over dogs: Jean Braun’s Finn, Shirley Brantingham’s Sunny, Heidi Thorson’s Chewie, Kathy Blough’s Sasha, Ann Savage’s Bella, Julia Breza’s Penny, Michelle Ritt’s Dashiell, Joni Steinbach’s Sport & Jan Friend’s Parker. We will be honoring them all at this year’s DAY Camps.
This year’s camp format will be similar to last year, in order to allow for a ONE day camp experience where each team will work with each of our three nose work & detection professionals. You can pick either Saturday or Sunday with searches being a combination of exterior and interior searches depending on the weather considerations. We may have the option for teams to attend both days if all spots do not fill. Dogs will be crated in your car and you may be able to drive from one search area to another. You may also bring a crate in order to crate your dog closer to a search area. It will be a fun time for you and your canine companion, where you can enjoy nose work searches on the picturesque grounds of Camp Ihduhapi & re-connect with your nose work friends and make new friends. Each person will be in proximity to 15 other participants and 3 coaches per day. We will be maintaining a 6ft physical distance and to the best of our abilities minimize any points of contact. Click on the word "map" to go to Google Maps and see the precise location and to get directions.
The Instructors
Three Experts will share their knowledge & experience in a combination of working sessions. This year we will have Anthony Nettles and Jason Heng joining Jeff McMahon, to share their knowledge of dogs and nose work with you. Anthony Nettles trains and works bloodhounds for Wilson County K9 Search and Rescue. Jeff first met Anthony two years ago outside of Nashville, TN while on a nose work/family trip. Anthony’s philosophy and approach to training and working his dogs resonated with Jeff. From the relationship necessary to get the most from your dog, to training that involves no boundaries, Anthony will have much to share. Jason Heng is one of the most dog-focused coaches in scent work. Having lived with and worked with Shiba Inu dogs for over a decade, Jason knows the value of relationship and communication. He also has a deep knowledge of competition scent work both as a seasoned handler and as an official for NACSW trials. This is Jason’s second time coaching at the Sniffover.
